We just finished our first beginner's quilt class. It was a six week class where the students learned a number of quilting techniques. Each week they made 3 blocks where they learned a new technique. On the first lesson, they learned how to achieve an accurate 1/4" and how to chain piece. Quilters spend lots of time and effort to create a quilt. They spend countless hours searching for just the right fabric and hours piecing their project. Here is Canada, fabric is expensive and a full size quilt can often cost several hundred dollars just for the materials. So in addition to time and effort, quilters spend a lot of money making a quilt.  Although there is a lot of thought that goes into the quilt top, I have come to realize that most quilters don't think much about the batting they put in their project. Some months ago I saw a side light that another quilter had made  and commented on Facebook that I would really like to make on of them.  My brother and sister in law saw the post and surprised me yesterday with one they had made for me. It even has my business name painted on it.  Thank you so much! A side light makes shadows on your quilt and allows you to see where you have stitched on fabrics where it is hard to see your thread. They are amazing!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Snow, Snow and More Snow

I have been looking forward to this weekend. My husband was going away  and I was going to have some time alone to quilt. I got up early Saturday morning and started making blocks for the Beginner's Sampler class I am teaching in a few weeks. It was a great day!
